Sex and the City: Samantha & Charlotte's Surprising Similarities (Are So Important) | Explained

Sex and the City’s Samantha Jones and Charlotte York were set up to be complete opposites: Samantha the free-loving, up for anything hottie and Charlotte the romantic, repressed Park Ave princess. But when we take a deeper look at their stories, we actually start to see that surprisingly… they’re a lot alike. While they don’t always see eye to eye on the ‘right’ way to live one’s life, they do share some important similarities in the ways they go about getting what they want (and in how they grow over the course of the show.) The pair actually provide some really interesting insight into how - regardless of the boxes that society might try to put us in - we’re not actually that different from people we think are nothing like us, and how having those people in our lives can actually help us form a more accepting, multifaceted view of ourselves.

Modern Family: How Gloria Was Right About Everything
Переглядів 39 тис.7 годин тому
Modern Family’s Gloria Pritchett was initially discounted by pretty much everyone else on the show. They were so blinded by her more obvious qualities and the fact that they assumed she was a gold digger, that they couldn’t even see the amazing person inside that beautiful package. But it quickly became clear that she was the one with the best outlook on life. And not only did she use her smart...

House of the Dragon's Rhaenyra and Alicent’s opposite personalities are the sun-and-moon gravitational pull that makes their relationship the heart of the show’s central conflict. Starting as each other’s closest companions, Rhaenyra and Alicent must contend with their own position in a patriarchal society that view women as merely vessels for male dominion. Let’s take a look at how each woman ...
The "Ugly" Friend Trope: Who Gets To Be Hot or Not | Explained
Переглядів 76 тис.16 годин тому
Every on screen friend group usually has the ‘hot one’, which often means that someone ends up being designated as the ‘ugly’ one (though, of course, since this is Hollywood, she’s almost always still conventionally attractive.) The so-called ‘ugly friend’ often exists on the sidelines as a way for the story to highlight how special and cool the ‘hot’ friend is, but when she is put in the cente...
Friends: How Rachel Was Wrong About Everything
Переглядів 68 тис.День тому
Friends’ Rachel Green is a hilarious and highly relatable comedy heroine, who was such a compelling character because we got to watch her grow so much over the course of the show’s 10 seasons. But the reason she had so much room to grow is because she started out with some pretty wrong ideas about life. She spent the show’s run learning and evolving, and often fumbling… But she always managed t...
Giving Up Everything To Win Love (vs Those Who Want More) | SATC, Euphoria, Barbie & Beyond
Переглядів 72 тис.День тому
Love has long been seen as a prize to win on screen. How important that prize was to a character’s motivations as a whole was generally split: for men, it was just a nice cherry on top but for women it was often the animating drive in their life. But, for as long as it’s been a trope, there have also been examples pushing back against that conception of romantic love. So, let’s take a deeper lo...

Mean Girls: How Regina Was Right About Everything (Unfortunately...)
Переглядів 382 тис.14 днів тому
Mean Girls’ Regina George is one of pop culture’s most iconic high school villains. Perhaps the worst thing about Regina is that what’s horrible about her is actually what’s… true. Regina was a menace because she understood some pretty dark fundamental truths about the world, and the fact that she was right about them underlines some major problems in society. So let’s take a deeper look at wha...
Why Millennials Seem To Be Aging So Slowly | Explained
Переглядів 116 тис.14 днів тому
Millennials (aka people born between 1981 and 1996) seem to be aging at a slower rate than previous generations… but no one agrees on why. Some say it’s because they’re just immature, dodging responsibilities and spending too much time on nostalgia. Others blame the rise of cosmetic procedures and the increased focus on looks in our social media focused world combined with the lack of access to...

I think if Regina had left Kady alone 100% then Kady wouldn’t have been persuaded to hurt Regina or challenger at all. Kady seemed to be content with minding her own business until Regina personally hurt her.

It's crazy how hot the "ugly" woman is. Like in Ready Player One, Art3mis has a port wine stain birthmark and it's the most "who cares" of anything, a parody of The Phantom of the Opera.

I had a midlife crisis from about 35 to 36. For real, frustrating was graduating from medical school aged 23, marrying the love of my life aged 24 and having my life goals ruined by 10 years of absolutely terrible health. And what sparked off my health issues? Was working hard physically financially and emotionally to care for my close relatives through their respective diagnoses of cancer and dementia. I had a rough childhood so I always wanted to get it together by age 30. I was not out partying in my 20s. I was not out drinking and travelling etc. was literally at home learning to cook and clean and all the other life stuff I didn’t learn in my teens and early 20s cos I was studying all the time. And guess what…after 10 years working on my ruined health, I’m now emerging broke with no prospect of having kids and having to start over with a career. I had a terrible childhood trauma and that needs fixing too. That was part of the reason for the illness. I do know people who got it together by the time they were 30 but they had stable upbringing and ALOT of help from their parents.

I remember when The 100 first aired on the CW it was praised for at least keeping continuity between episodes because hair became unkempt, injuries that looked painful and awful took several episodes to heal, and clothes that were makeshift patchwork of hand-me-downs in the first place got progressively more dirty, bloody and torn as the characters wore them over and over for days on end. Like, yeah, as with all CW and dystopian shows, the cast was full of ridiculously beautiful instagrammable faces. Eyebrows were plucked, legs were hairless, eyeliner and mascara was unmistakably present. But at least the clothes were visibly unwashed for several episodes, glossy hairdos devolved into got greasy messes, and the characters' injuries were oozing and not miraculously healed overnight when the next episode aired.

You should look into characters that people either never liked or only started disliking after a second watch and talk about the few things they did get right like Ted from How I met your mother or Ross from Friends and on the opposite take a character that people tend to like and agree with and point out where they were wrong like Katara from Avatar the last Airbender or Mabel from Gravity falls.
